In this website you will find information regarding a new invention to minimize total hip prosthesis surgery using endoscopy and biotechnology for the treatment of damaged joints caused by arthritis, osteoarthrosis and other diseases.
A device has been invented which gives the opportunity to create an artificial space joint by reaching the hip joint from behind via a tunnel drilled into the neck and head of the femur to reach the space joint and allowing the joints to move freely without friction while biomaterials or autologous chondrocytes implantation (ACI), carbon fibers implants (MSP), cultivated cartilage, resorbable implants, stem cells or apply nanotechnology, etc fuses with the recipient bone reducing the post operative and rehabilitation period and allowing the patient to move sooner.
By using endoscopy and biotechnology patients can be operated on as soon as the damage in the joints is detected therefore preventing further destruction, This operation could be carried out as an out patient procedure by minimal invasive surgery as the insertion of the device into the bone is perfomed by key hole surgery withouth removing the head and the neck of the femur and preserving intact the capsule of the joint.
This invention has a protruding "head" which consists of a metallic or inflatable surface among other possibilities. The inflatable head resurfaces the acetabulum producing an artifical joint in the hip by adapting to the shape of the acetabulum surface, cushioning the joint, and avoiding bone friction.
This device can be used for the replacement of meniscus (cartilage) in the knee joint as it is possible to manufacture the protruding aspect of this invention in the shape of a meniscus.
This device could be used to nail fractured neck of femurs, and if in future destruction of the joints develops, with minimal invasive surgery we can obtain an artificial joint or repair the joint surfaces.
TOTAL HIP PROSTHESIS SURGERY IS VERY AGGRESSIVE, INVASIVE AND EXPENSIVE. THE WAY THIS SURGERY IS CARRIED OUT TODAY CAN BE COMPARED WITH THE OLD FASHIONED DENTIST WHO USED TO REMOVE A TOOTH INSTEAD OF DRILLING OUT THE DECAY.
When you suffer from arthritis or arthrosis, the damage in your joint cartilage is very thin, just a few mm. thick. Today with artroscopes and biotechnology it is possible to resurface and repair the joints avoiding the replacement of normal bone by a stiff metalic prosthesis which in many cases produces complications and patients have to again undergo major surgery which is called REVISION SURGERY.
It is more than 50 years since McKee and Farrar implanted a metal total hip prosthesis in Norwich, England, since then the basic surgical procedure hasn't changed. The time has come to look for a different approach for repairing damaged joints and give patients another alternative. It shouldn't be necessary to suffer years of pain, stiffness, medications with its complications, reducing the quality of life to reach the "right age" for total joint replacement surgery.
As the population becomes older and lives longer the damage to the joints increases and the waiting lists in hospitals for treatment are on the rise. There are not enough economical resources in National Health Services worldwide for TOTAL HIP IMPLANTS due to the high costs of manufacturing prosthesis which requires an enormous consumption of energy for the physical and chemical reactions to produce expensive metals, which in turn produces more pollution in the environment. With the different types and shapes of prosthesis appearing on the market, hospitals are required to buy a large variety of surgical instruments to implant the prosthesis.
The training of surgeons capable of performing this surgery which in many cases requires REVISION SURGERY, makes this traditional form of surgical procedure extremely expensive.
The yearly business for prosthesis in the USA alone is more than TWO BILLON US DOLLARS.
MINIMAL INVASIVE TOTAL HIP SURGERY: This surgical procedure makes smaller incisions in the patients' thigh for the implant of hip prosthesis, but it is still aggressive and invasive surgery as the neck and head of the healthy bone in the hip is removed together with the blood supply and stability of the hip joint (the capsule).
This invention has been patented in UK GB 2344290 B and I am looking for partners to develop, produce and market the device. If you would like to be involved in this project or require more information, please contact Dr. Javier Cabrera LMS. FICS. info@endoscopebiohip.com Offers to purchase the patent will be considered.
